Our Story

Back in 2015, we realized that there was a distinct lack of authentic Mexican cuisine in Australia and New Zealand. While there were plenty of restaurants serving "Mexican-style" food, they just didn't quite hit the spot. We knew that we could show what real Mexican food tastes like, and that's when the idea for our own restaurant was born.

Our mission is simple: to introduce New Zealand to the delicious and authentic flavors of Mexico. We are passionate about using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and traditional cooking techniques to create dishes that transport our customers to the streets of Mexico City.

But our vision goes beyond just introducing new flavors. We also want to share with New Zealanders all about the incredible health benefits of corn tortillas. Corn has been a staple food in Mexico for thousands of years, and for good reason. Corn tortillas are gluten-free, low in fat, and high in fiber and nutrients. They're also incredibly versatile and can be used in a variety of dishes.

We wanted to recreate the real Mexican taquerias you find all across the country, so we focus on the real street style of Mexican tacos: double corn tortilla, great slow-cooked fillings, as well as our own steak and meat marinades. We want to share with Auckland a little piece of Mexico, one bite at a time.

We know that introducing a new food into a culture can be a challenge, but we're up for it. We have seen that once people taste the difference between our fresh, homemade corn tortillas and the store-bought kind, they're hooked. But our vision goes beyond just introducing new flavors. We would love if nixtamalized corn tortillas get to be incorporated into the New Zealand diet the same way that Naan or Pita Bread has done so. There's still lots of work to do, but we want to make a better world, one taco at a time. We would like to continue to grow and reach other parts of the country and hopefully, down the line, make corn tortillas part of New Zealand's staple diet.
